A little history

Sage (Salvia officinalis) has been cherished for thousands of years as both a culinary and medicinal plant. Its very name, Salvia, comes from the Latin word salvare, meaning “to heal” or “to save,” which reflects the high regard in which it was held in ancient times.

Ancient Civilizations: The Egyptians valued sage for its healing properties and used it in rituals. The Greeks and Romans considered it a sacred herb, associating it with wisdom and longevity. Roman physicians, including Dioscorides, praised sage in their writings.

Medieval Europe: Monks grew sage in monastery gardens as part of their medicinal plant collections. It became a staple of medieval herbalism, used to support digestion, relieve discomfort, and balance the body.

Women’s Health: For centuries, sage was a trusted ally for women. Traditional European folk medicine recommended it for easing menstrual discomfort and later for managing menopausal changes such as hot flashes and excessive sweating.

Cultural Symbol: Sage has also held symbolic meanings. In many cultures, it was seen as a plant of wisdom, clarity, and protection, which is why it appears in folklore and even spiritual rituals.

Today, sage infusion continues to be enjoyed worldwide for its comforting and balancing qualities, keeping alive a tradition that spans millennia.

At Elliotti, we believe a good supplement should be easy to understand. What is in it, how much should you take, where does it come from, and why has this particular formula been chosen?

Our Bioptimal range brings together food supplements made in France, with a focus on carefully selected ingredients and straightforward formulations. Some feature a single botanical, while others combine plants or nutrients in formulas designed for a particular type of daily routine.

We look beyond the front of the pack. Ingredients, daily amounts, quality, certification, recommended use and precautions all matter when we decide what belongs at Elliotti.
