Organic Açaí Powder from the Amazon

Deep purple, intensely fruity and naturally nutrient-rich, açaí is one of the Amazon's most distinctive fruits. This organic açaí powder is made from Brazilian Euterpe oleracea berries and freeze-dried to transform the fruit into an easy-to-use powder while retaining its characteristic nutritional profile.

Unlike many fruits, açaí is naturally low in sugar and remarkably rich in fibre. The powder provides 32.5 g of fibre per 100 g and is also a source of iron and phosphorus, making it much more than simply a colourful addition to a smoothie bowl.

What Makes Açaí Different?

Açaí has an unusual nutritional composition for a berry. Instead of being dominated by sugars, it naturally contains fibre and fats, with only 1 g of sugar per 100 g. Its deep purple powder also brings the unmistakable character of Amazonian açaí to everyday breakfasts, smoothies and bowls.

The flavour is rich and slightly earthy, with dark berry notes that pair particularly well with naturally sweeter fruits such as banana, mango and berries. It is an excellent choice when you want to add more depth to a smoothie without making it overly sweet.

Naturally Rich in Fibre

With 32.5 g of fibre per 100 g, this açaí powder is naturally high in fibre. A daily 15 g serving provides approximately 4.9 g of fibre.

It is also a source of iron and phosphorus. A 15 g serving provides approximately 3 mg of iron and 117 mg of phosphorus, corresponding to 21.4% and 16.2% of the respective reference intakes shown on the product label.

That makes açaí particularly interesting for anyone looking for a nutrient-dense fruit powder that is easy to incorporate into an everyday diet.

From Purple Powder to Açaí Bowl

Açaí is incredibly easy to use. Mix 3 teaspoons (15 g) per day into a smoothie, yoghurt, porridge or other sweet or savoury preparations.

For a classic açaí-style breakfast, blend the powder with banana and a little plant drink until thick and creamy, then top with fresh berries, seeds, nuts or granola. Its naturally tart, dark-fruit character works especially well alongside sweeter ingredients.

More information

Botanical name: Euterpe oleracea
Family: Arecaceae
Common name: Açaí, Açaí Palm
Plant part used: Fruit
Origin: Brazil

Açaí is the fruit of Euterpe oleracea, a slender palm native to the Amazon basin. The palms thrive in the warm, humid conditions of tropical floodplains and produce large hanging clusters containing hundreds of small, round fruits.

Although commonly called a berry, the açaí fruit is botanically a drupe, like an olive or cherry. Most of the fruit consists of a large central seed, surrounded by a relatively thin layer of dark purple skin and pulp. It is this outer part that is valued as food and gives açaí its characteristic deep purple colour.

Usage tips

Take 3 teaspoons (15 g) per day. Açaí powder is easy to mix into smoothies, yoghurt, porridge and drinks, but its earthy berry flavour also works surprisingly well in savoury recipes.

Because açaí itself is not particularly sweet, it pairs beautifully with naturally sweeter fruits such as banana, mango and dates, as well as cacao, coconut and berries.

🌿Açaí Breakfast Bowl

Blend until thick and creamy:

3 tsp açaí powder
1 frozen banana
100 g Greek or plant-based yoghurt
A small handful of berries
A splash of milk or plant drink

Top with granola, coconut flakes, chia seeds and fresh fruit.

🌿Açaí & Berry Smoothie

Blend:

3 tsp açaí powder
1 banana
100 g mixed berries
200 ml milk or plant drink
1 tbsp oats

For an extra creamy smoothie, add a spoonful of yoghurt.

🌿Açaí Cacao Yoghurt

Mix together:

3 tsp açaí powder
150–200 g Greek or plant-based yoghurt
1 tsp cacao powder
½ sliced banana
A little honey or maple syrup, if desired

Finish with chopped nuts, cacao nibs or hemp seeds.

🌿A Savoury Açaí Dressing

For something completely different, whisk together:

1 tsp açaí powder
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp lemon or lime juice
A small drizzle of honey
A pinch of sea salt

Try it over grain bowls, roasted vegetables or salads with avocado and toasted seeds.

Tip: Açaí's deep purple colour is powerful, so take care around light fabrics and porous kitchen surfaces.

Quality

The açaí comes from Brazil and is freeze-dried before being packed in France. The powder contains no listed EU Annex II allergens, including gluten-containing cereals, milk, soya, nuts or peanuts, and the technical documentation confirms that these allergens are also not identified as potential cross-contaminants or present at the production facility.

A little history

Açaí has been part of everyday life in the Amazon for generations, long before it became known internationally as a “superfood”. Indigenous communities and riverine populations of northern Brazil traditionally harvested the dark purple fruits of the açaí palm and processed them into a thick, nourishing pulp.

In the Brazilian Amazon, particularly in the state of Pará, açaí developed as a staple food rather than a sweet treat. The freshly prepared pulp was traditionally eaten alongside foods such as fish and cassava flour. This is quite different from the sweet açaí bowls that later became popular around the world.

During the late 20th century, açaí began travelling beyond the Amazon. It became especially popular in Brazilian cities, where it was increasingly served frozen and combined with fruits and other sweeter ingredients. From there, its striking purple colour, distinctive flavour and unusual nutritional composition helped introduce açaí to international markets.

Today, açaí may be found in smoothie bowls from Europe to North America, but in its homeland it remains something much older and more culturally significant: a traditional Amazonian food with deep roots in the daily life of the region.

Precautions for use

FAQ

🌿 What does açaí actually taste like?
Açaí is much less sweet than its vivid purple colour might suggest. Its flavour is often described as earthy and slightly tart, with dark berry and subtle cocoa-like notes. If you prefer something sweeter, banana, mango or dates pair beautifully with it.

🌿 Why is açaí so purple?
The remarkable colour comes from naturally occurring plant pigments called anthocyanins. These are the same family of pigments responsible for the deep red, blue and purple colours found in blueberries, blackberries, blackcurrants and purple cabbage.

🌿 Is açaí powder the same as the frozen açaí used in açaí bowls?
Not quite. Frozen açaí products are usually fruit pulp and may sometimes contain other ingredients. This product is 100% freeze-dried açaí fruit powder, so you can decide exactly what to combine it with.

🌿 Can I make a real açaí bowl with the powder?
Absolutely. Blend the powder with frozen banana and a small amount of plant drink until thick and creamy. Add toppings such as fresh berries, coconut, nuts, seeds or granola. Using only a little liquid gives you that characteristic spoonable açaí-bowl texture.

🌿 Why isn't açaí naturally very sweet like many other fruits?
Açaí has an unusual composition for a fruit, with very little naturally occurring sugar and a comparatively high proportion of fibre and fat. That is one reason its flavour and texture are so different from powdered strawberries, mango or other sweeter fruits.

🌿 Can I use açaí in savoury food too?
Yes. In fact, sweet açaí bowls are a relatively modern way of eating the fruit. In northern Brazil, açaí pulp has traditionally been eaten in savoury meals, including alongside fish and cassava. Try the powder in dressings, sauces or bowls where its earthy character can work surprisingly well.

🌿 Will açaí powder stain?
It can! Those beautiful purple pigments can leave temporary stains on light fabrics, wooden utensils and porous surfaces. Treat it much as you would beetroot or strongly coloured berries.

🌿 Can I combine açaí with other superfood powders?
Yes. Rather than adding everything at once, choose combinations for flavour and texture. Açaí works particularly well with cacao for a deeper flavour, or with baobab when you want a brighter, fruitier combination. For breakfast, chia seeds or hemp seeds are also easy additions.
