A little history

1. Ancient Egypt
Hibiscus was highly valued in ancient Egyptian culture. Known as karkadé, it was brewed as a cooling, sour-tasting tea. Egyptians drank hibiscus to reduce body temperature, boost heart health, and relieve thirst - especially in the desert heat. It was also used during ceremonial and religious rituals.

2. Ayurveda (India)
In Ayurvedic medicine, hibiscus (often Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) is used both medicinally and ritually. The flower is associated with the goddess Kali and is offered during spiritual ceremonies. Medicinally, it is traditionally used for:

- Supporting hair health
- Managing menstrual discomfort
- Balancing the doshas, especially Pitta (fire energy)

3. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
In TCM, hibiscus is used to clear heat, relieve swelling, and support the liver. Its cooling properties make it ideal for balancing internal heat conditions and promoting overall vitality.

4. Africa
In West Africa, hibiscus tea - especially from Hibiscus sabdariffa - is known as bissap and consumed for hydration, digestion, and ceremonial gatherings. It's often blended with mint, ginger, or spices and is a staple drink at social events.

5. Latin America & the Caribbean
In regions like Mexico, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic, hibiscus is made into a drink called agua de Jamaica. It’s widely enjoyed as a refreshing, vitamin-rich beverage and is traditionally used for:

- Supporting digestion
- Promoting fluid elimination
- Enjoying antioxidant benefits

6. Europe
Hibiscus entered European herbalism through trade with Africa and the Middle East. It became popular as an herbal tea for digestive comfort, circulation, and general well-being. Today, it's a common ingredient in wellness teas across Europe.

Botanical Supplements, Chosen with Care

At Elliotti, we believe a good supplement should be easy to understand. What is in it, how much should you take, where does it come from, and why has this particular formula been chosen?

Our Bioptimal range brings together food supplements made in France, with a focus on carefully selected ingredients and straightforward formulations. Some feature a single botanical, while others combine plants or nutrients in formulas designed for a particular type of daily routine.

We look beyond the front of the pack. Ingredients, daily amounts, quality, certification, recommended use and precautions all matter when we decide what belongs at Elliotti.

Explore the product information above to understand exactly what is in this formula and how to use it.
