A little history

Ancient Origins in Asia
Ginseng has been treasured for over 2,000 years, particularly in China, Korea, and later across Asia. The earliest references date back to around 200 BCE, during the Han dynasty in China, where ginseng was recorded in classical herbal texts. It was regarded as a tonic for longevity, vitality, and spiritual balance.

A Symbol of Vitality and Strength
Because of its human-shaped root (the name Panax comes from Greek meaning “cure-all”), ginseng was believed to embody life force. It became a symbol of vitality, used by emperors, nobles, and traditional healers. For centuries, wild ginseng was so valuable that it was traded as a form of currency in parts of Asia.

Spread Across the World
By the 16th and 17th centuries, ginseng was introduced to Europe through trade routes, where it quickly gained recognition as an exotic medicinal plant. Later, in the 18th century, explorers discovered American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) in North America, which Indigenous peoples had also used for its restorative properties. This discovery sparked a major transatlantic trade, particularly with China.

Modern Use
Today, both white and red ginseng remain among the most widely studied and used medicinal plants worldwide. They are valued not only in traditional Chinese medicine and Korean herbal practices, but also in modern naturopathy and wellness, where ginseng is recognized for its ability to support energy, immunity, and mental performance.
