A Comforting Herbal Infusion for Respiratory Wellbeing

Herb 7 Respiratory Comfort Organic Blend is a warming herbal infusion created for times when your throat and respiratory system need a little extra comfort. Combining marshmallow, mallow, Scots pine, thyme and lemon, it is particularly suited to the colder months, seasonal changes and those days when the throat feels dry, tickly or uncomfortable.

Marshmallow has a soothing and pleasant effect on the throat, pharynx and vocal cords, while mallow is traditionally valued for its soothing character. Thyme and Scots pine give the infusion its aromatic respiratory profile, complemented by fresh lemon peel. Together, the five plants create a warming, comforting cup that is especially pleasant when enjoyed hot.

Each botanical makes up 20% of the blend, giving all five plants an equal place in the formula. The combination of marshmallow root, mallow flowers and leaves, Scots pine buds, thyme leaves and lemon peel creates a complex herbal flavour with soft, aromatic, forest-like and citrus notes.

Keep Herb 7 in your tea cupboard during autumn and winter, periods of changing weather, or whenever you want a soothing herbal infusion centred around the throat and respiratory wellbeing. Brew it hot, cover while infusing to retain the aromatic compounds, and take the time to breathe in its herbal aroma before drinking slowly.

🌿Inside the Blend

Herb 7 brings together five botanicals in equal proportions, with each plant making up 20% of the blend. What makes the formula particularly interesting is that it combines roots, flowers, leaves, buds and citrus peel, each bringing a different character to the infusion.

Marshmallow root is one of the key plants in the blend. Rich in naturally occurring mucilage, marshmallow has a long tradition of use in herbal preparations for the throat. Its soothing character makes it particularly well suited to an infusion designed around throat and respiratory comfort.

Mallow flowers and leaves belong to the same botanical family as marshmallow and are also naturally rich in mucilaginous substances. Mallow is traditionally valued for its gentle, soothing character and complements marshmallow particularly well.

Thyme leaves bring a more aromatic dimension to the formula. Thyme has a long history in European herbal traditions, particularly in preparations associated with the throat and respiratory system. Its strongly aromatic nature also gives the infusion much of its characteristic herbal aroma.

Scots pine buds add another traditional respiratory botanical to the blend. Pine buds have long been used in European seasonal herbal preparations and contribute the distinctive fresh, resinous character associated with pine.

Lemon peel completes the formula. Rather than simply adding lemon flavour, the peel contributes its naturally aromatic citrus oils and gives freshness to a blend otherwise dominated by softer and more resinous herbs.

🌿Why These Five Plants Together?

The blend makes sense because the plants do not simply repeat one another. Marshmallow and mallow provide the softer, soothing side of the formula, while thyme and Scots pine contribute its more aromatic respiratory character. Lemon peel brings freshness and helps balance the overall herbal profile.

Because all five botanicals are present at 20%, Herb 7 is a genuine five-plant blend rather than a base ingredient with small amounts of supporting herbs.

🌿Taste & Aroma

Herb 7 has a distinctly botanical character. Thyme and Scots pine provide aromatic, herbal and resinous notes, while lemon peel adds a brighter citrus element. Marshmallow and mallow give the blend a softer background that helps round out the more aromatic plants.

It is particularly pleasant served warm, when the aroma of the thyme, pine and lemon becomes part of the experience. Cover the cup or teapot while steeping to help retain the aromatic components.

Usage tips

For one cup: Use approximately 3.5 to 4.5 g of the herbal blend for 250 ml of water. Pour hot water, no hotter than 80°C, over the herbs. Cover and leave to infuse for 5 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, then strain.

For a full-day infusion: Use 4 to 5 tablespoons (14 to 18 g) per litre of water. Prepare in the same way and enjoy warm throughout the day.

Keeping the cup or teapot covered while steeping helps retain the aromatic character of the thyme, Scots pine and lemon peel.

How long does one box last?
The 50 g box makes approximately 11 to 14 cups of 250 ml, depending on how strongly you prepare your infusion. If preparing one litre per day at the recommended amount, one box lasts approximately 3 days.

A little history

The plants in Herb 7 have a long and intertwined history in European herbal traditions, particularly in monastery gardens, household herbalism and seasonal preparations. Long before the modern tea cupboard, roots, leaves, flowers, buds and aromatic peels were gathered throughout the year and prepared as infusions, syrups and other traditional preparations during the colder months.

Lemon peel (Citrus limon)
Lemons originated in Asia and gradually travelled westwards, becoming firmly established around the Mediterranean. The fragrant peel became valued in cooking, preserves and herbal preparations, where its bright citrus aroma provided a fresh counterpoint to stronger and more earthy botanicals. This same role can be appreciated in Herb 7, where lemon peel brings freshness to the deeper herbal notes of thyme and pine.

Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis)
Marshmallow has been known since antiquity and appears in the herbal traditions of the ancient Mediterranean as well as later European herbalism. Its botanical name Althaea derives from the Greek althainein, associated with healing. The root is particularly notable for its naturally high mucilage content, which gives preparations made from it their characteristic soft, slightly viscous quality. Marshmallow root continued to be used in household herbal preparations for centuries.

Mallow (Malva sylvestris)
Common mallow has an equally rich European history. Growing readily across much of Europe, it became familiar in monastery gardens and rural households, where both its leaves and delicate purple flowers were collected. Like marshmallow, mallow contains mucilaginous substances and was valued for the soft character it brought to traditional preparations.

Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris)
Scots pine has particularly deep roots in the traditions of Northern and Central Europe. In forest regions, different parts of the pine tree were put to practical use, and the young buds became ingredients in seasonal preparations such as infusions and syrups. Their unmistakably fresh, resinous aroma brought the character of the forest into the home during the colder months.

Thyme (Thymus sp.)
Thyme has been part of Mediterranean life since antiquity. The Greeks associated the herb with courage, while the Romans used it in cooking, bathing and aromatic preparations. Over the centuries, thyme became a familiar ingredient in European household herbalism and winter infusions. Its intensely aromatic leaves remain one of the defining characteristics of Herb 7.

Together, these five plants tell a story that stretches from the Mediterranean citrus grove and herb garden to the pine forests of Northern Europe. Herb 7 brings that history into a modern herbal infusion, combining plants that generations before us also gathered, dried and prepared when the seasons changed.

Packaging & storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. Keep the package properly closed after opening to help preserve the natural aroma and quality of the herbs.

As dried botanicals readily absorb moisture and surrounding odours, store away from strongly scented foods, spices and household products.

FAQ

🌿 When would I choose Herb 7 rather than a single-herb tea?
Choose Herb 7 when you want a more complete seasonal infusion centred around the throat and respiratory wellbeing. Instead of relying on one plant, it combines marshmallow and mallow with aromatic thyme and Scots pine, finished with fresh lemon peel. Each botanical makes up 20% of the blend, so all five have a meaningful place in the cup.

🌿 Is this a good tea to keep at home for autumn and winter?
Yes. This is exactly where Herb 7 fits best in the herbal cupboard. Its combination of traditional European respiratory botanicals and its warm, aromatic character make it particularly suited to colder weather, seasonal changes and those days when the throat feels dry, tickly or uncomfortable.

🌿 Why are both marshmallow and mallow included?
Although closely related, they are different plants and different parts are used. Herb 7 contains marshmallow root and mallow flowers and leaves. Both belong to the Malvaceae family and naturally contain mucilaginous substances, giving a softer character to the infusion and complementing the more aromatic thyme and pine.

🌿 Is marshmallow root connected to the marshmallows we eat today?
Yes, surprisingly! The original marshmallow confection was inspired by Althaea officinalis. Preparations made from marshmallow root were used long before the modern sweet existed, and in 19th-century France confectioners made pâte de guimauve, combining marshmallow root preparations with sugar and other ingredients. Modern marshmallows no longer normally contain the plant, but the name remains.

🌿 Did you know that mallow was once eaten as a vegetable?
Yes. Malva sylvestris has not only been used as a herbal plant. Its young leaves were traditionally eaten as a leafy vegetable in parts of Europe and the Mediterranean, and mallow still appears in regional food traditions today. The leaves can be cooked rather like other leafy greens, while the flowers have also been used to add colour to foods and herbal preparations. It is a lovely reminder that the boundary between the traditional kitchen and the herbal cupboard was not always as clear as it is today.

🌿 What does Herb 7 taste like?
Expect a proper herbal infusion rather than a sweet or fruity tea. Thyme gives it an aromatic herbal character, Scots pine adds fresh resinous notes, and lemon peel brings brightness. Marshmallow and mallow soften and round out the blend.

🌿 Can I make just one cup instead of a whole litre?
Absolutely. For one large 250 ml cup, use approximately 3.5 to 4.5 g of the blend. Use water no hotter than 80°C, cover and infuse for 5 to 10 minutes before straining. Covering the cup while it steeps also helps retain the aromatic components of the herbs.

🌿 How long will one 50 g box last?
If you prepare individual 250 ml cups, one box makes approximately 11 to 14 cups, depending on how strongly you brew it. If you follow the full-day preparation of 14 to 18 g per litre, one box provides approximately 3 to 3.5 litres of prepared infusion.
