Origin of the plant: Italy

The almond tree belongs to the Rosaceae family. Its fruit contains one to two almonds whose oil content varies between 50 and 65%. Only the sweet almond is edible, the bitter variety being toxic. Originally from Asia, the Almond has been present all around the Mediterranean since the Middle Ages.
