A treasure trove of nutrients

Cold-pressed from 100% organic hemp seeds grown in France, this raw hemp oil is a simple way to bring one of hemp’s most interesting nutritional qualities into everyday food: its naturally rich profile of polyunsaturated fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6.

What makes hemp oil particularly interesting is the composition of the oil itself. It contains 16.9 g omega-3 and 48.7 g omega-6 per 100 g, together with 2.2 g of naturally occurring gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). It is also a source of vitamin E, providing 91 mg per 100 g. Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress, while the omega-3 fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels when the required daily intake is reached.

The oil is obtained by first cold pressing, without chemical processing, preservatives or added colourings. This gentle production method gives it its characteristic green-gold colour and distinctive hemp flavour, with nutty, earthy notes and a slight bitterness at the finish.

Rather than using it as a frying oil, think of hemp oil as a finishing oil. Drizzle it over salads, roasted or steamed vegetables once they are off the heat, pasta, grain bowls or soups, blend it into dressings and dips, or add it to a smoothie. It is an especially interesting choice when you want more variety in the plant oils you use and an easy food source of omega-3 alongside your everyday meals.

Made from THC-free Cannabis sativa L. hemp seeds, certified organic and grown in France, this is hemp in one of its simplest forms: the seed, cold pressed into a nutrient-rich culinary oil.

More information

🌿Naturally interesting fatty acid profile

Hemp seed oil stands out among culinary plant oils for its naturally occurring combination of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. This oil provides 48.7 g omega-6 and 16.9 g omega-3 per 100 g, giving an omega-6 to omega-3 ratio of approximately 3:1.

It also naturally contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a less common omega-6 fatty acid. This hemp oil provides 2.2 g GLA per 100 g, making its fatty acid composition particularly distinctive.

🌿A source of vitamin E

The oil provides 91 mg of vitamin E per 100 g. Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.

🌿Why cold pressing matters

The oil is obtained by first cold pressing of organic hemp seeds, without chemical processing, preservatives or added colourings. Cold pressing allows the oil to retain its characteristic composition, natural green-gold colour and distinctive hemp flavour.

Ingredients: 100% organic hemp seeds (Cannabis sativa L.)

Usage tips

Hemp oil is best enjoyed raw or added after cooking, allowing its characteristic flavour and naturally occurring fatty acids to remain at their best. Its earthy, nutty taste and gentle bitterness work particularly well with fresh vegetables, grains, pulses, avocado and herbs.

Try it in:

🌿 Hemp & Lemon Dressing
Whisk hemp oil with fresh lemon juice, Dijon mustard, a little honey, sea salt and black pepper. Excellent with leafy salads, lentils or roasted vegetables.

🌿 Green Hemp Pesto
Blend basil, parsley or rocket with hemp oil, garlic, lemon juice, nuts or seeds and Parmesan. Spoon over pasta, vegetables or toasted sourdough.

🌿 Avocado & Hemp Toast
Mash avocado with lemon and sea salt, spread over toasted bread and finish with a drizzle of hemp oil, tomato and fresh rocket.

🌿 Creamy Hemp Hummus
Replace some of the usual olive oil in hummus with hemp oil. Its nutty character works beautifully with chickpeas, tahini, lemon and garlic.

🌿 Hemp Breakfast Smoothie
Blend banana, berries, oat drink and a spoonful of hemp oil for an easy way to incorporate it into breakfast.

🌿 Finishing Oil for Warm Dishes
Drizzle over soups, pasta, baked potatoes, grain bowls or roasted vegetables after cooking, just before serving.

Once opened, keep the bottle well closed and store in a cool, dry place away from light.

A little history

Hemp has been part of human life for thousands of years. Long before it became associated with modern wellness trends, Cannabis sativa was valued as a remarkably practical crop, cultivated for its fibres, seeds and oil.

Archaeological evidence shows that hemp was used in ancient Asia, where its strong fibres became material for rope, textiles and early forms of paper, while the seeds were used as food. From Asia, hemp cultivation gradually spread westwards, becoming established across Europe.

In Europe, hemp eventually became an important agricultural crop. Its exceptionally strong fibres were particularly valuable for sails, ropes and cordage, making hemp closely connected with European maritime history. For centuries, it was a working plant as much as a food plant.

The seeds tell another side of the story. Pressing hemp seeds produces a naturally green-gold oil with an earthy, nutty flavour. Hemp seed oil was traditionally useful both as a food oil and for practical household purposes, long before modern analysis revealed its distinctive fatty-acid composition.

France has maintained a particularly strong relationship with hemp cultivation. Unlike many European countries where hemp production almost disappeared during the 20th century, France retained a continuous hemp-growing tradition, and today it remains one of Europe's important hemp-producing countries.

The hemp used for this oil belongs to Cannabis sativa L., but hemp grown for food is quite different in purpose from cannabis cultivated for its psychoactive constituents. Here, the valuable part is the THC-free seed, first cold pressed to produce the deep green-gold culinary oil in the bottle.

So although hemp oil may feel like a modern addition to the kitchen, the plant behind it is anything but new. It is one of those ancient cultivated plants that has continually reinvented its place in human life, from fibre and sailing ships to seeds and today's cold-pressed organic oils.

Packaging & storage

Hemp oil's high proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids also means it deserves a little more care than more heat-stable oils. Keep the bottle in a cool, dry place away from light, as stated on the product label, and close it carefully after use.

FAQ

🌿 Does hemp seed oil make you feel “high”?
No. Hemp seed oil is pressed from the seeds of Cannabis sativa L., and this product is THC-free. It does not have the psychoactive effects associated with THC-containing cannabis products.

🌿 Is hemp oil the same thing as CBD oil?
No, and this is a surprisingly common confusion. Hemp seed oil is a food oil pressed from hemp seeds. CBD products are produced specifically to contain cannabidiol extracted from other parts of the hemp plant. This bottle is pure hemp seed oil, not CBD oil.

🌿 Can I use hemp oil every day?
Yes. It can simply be treated as one of the edible oils in your kitchen. You do not need to take it like a supplement. Using it regularly in dressings, dips and meals is an easy way to vary the plant oils in your diet.

🌿 Can I combine hemp oil with extra virgin olive oil?
Absolutely. In fact, they make a useful kitchen pairing. Olive oil has a much higher proportion of monounsaturated oleic acid, while hemp oil contributes a very different polyunsaturated fatty-acid profile. Try mixing the two in a vinaigrette if you find pure hemp oil's flavour a little too distinctive.

🌿 Why can the colour and flavour vary slightly between bottles?
This is a minimally processed agricultural product, so small variations are completely normal. The seeds themselves, harvest and pressing can influence the precise shade and flavour of the finished oil. A slight variation does not mean that something has been added to the oil.

🌿 Can I use hemp oil on my skin even though it is sold as a food?
Pure hemp seed oil is also widely used as a vegetable oil in skincare, but this particular product is presented by Elliotti as an edible food oil. If you want hemp oil specifically for facial, body or massage use, a cosmetic-grade oil with that intended use is the more appropriate choice.

🌿 My hemp oil has been sitting in the cupboard for months. How can I tell if it is still good?
Smell and taste are useful clues with an opened bottle. Fresh hemp oil has its characteristic green, nutty, earthy flavour. If it develops a distinctly unpleasant rancid smell or taste, rather than its normal slight bitterness, it is time to replace it. Its high proportion of polyunsaturated fats means it deserves more careful storage than some other culinary oils.
