Green Tea is one of the oldest and most respected medicinal plants, valued for its ability to stimulate metabolism, support detoxification, and enhance mental clarity. This organic infusion offers a pure and potent way to integrate its benefits into your daily routine.

Unlike black tea, green tea leaves are unoxidized, preserving their full spectrum of active compounds, including polyphenols and natural caffeine (theine). These compounds work synergistically to support fat metabolism, reduce excess accumulation, and gently stimulate the body's elimination pathways.

How Green Tea works in the body

Metabolism & Weight Balance

  • Stimulates fat burning through natural caffeine (theine)
  • Helps reduce absorption of lipids and carbohydrates
  • Supports healthy weight management when combined with a balanced diet

Detox & Elimination

  • Promotes natural diuresis (drainage of excess fluids)
  • Supports kidney and liver elimination pathways
  • Helps reduce water retention

Energy & Mental Clarity

  • Enhances alertness without the harsh stimulation of coffee
  • Supports focus and cognitive performance
Green tea is traditionally used to keep the mind clear, calm, alert, and efficient

Antioxidant Protection

  • Rich in polyphenols that help neutralize free radicals
  • Supports cellular health and slows oxidative stress
More information

Green tea works on multiple levels within the body. From a naturopathic perspective, it supports the first phases of metabolic activation, helping the body mobilize stored energy and eliminate waste.

Its combination of mild stimulation + detox support makes it particularly useful when:

- The metabolism feels sluggish
- There is water retention or heaviness
- Energy is low but overstimulation should be avoided

Green tea also fits naturally into a detox or weight balance protocol, where improving elimination and reducing toxic load is essential for restoring metabolic efficiency. As seen in holistic practice, proper elimination is a key foundation for overall health and vitality.

Green tea naturally contains caffeine (theine), but its effect on the body is very different from coffee.

Each cup typically provides 20–50 mg of caffeine, depending on the amount used and infusion time. However, green tea also contains L-theanine, an amino acid that works in synergy with caffeine to create a calm, steady, and focused state of energy.

Instead of causing a rapid spike followed by a crash, green tea supports:

Clear mental focus
Sustained energy
A balanced nervous system response

From a naturopathic perspective, it gently stimulates the body while maintaining internal balance, making it suitable for daily use when consumed at the right time.

For best results, enjoy green tea in the morning or early afternoon, as stronger or later infusions may interfere with sleep in sensitive individuals.

Usage tips

Add 2½ teaspoons (approx. 2.5 g) of green tea leaves per 150 ml of water, several times per day.

Standard Infusion (Daily Use)
- Pour 150–250 ml hot water (max 80°C) over the leaves
- Cover and let steep for 5–10 minutes

A little history

The story of Green tea (Camellia sinensis), the plant behind all true tea, begins thousands of years ago in ancient China, where it was first discovered not as a daily beverage, but as a medicinal plant.

According to tradition, tea was discovered around 2737 BCE by Emperor Shennong, a legendary figure known for his deep knowledge of plants and healing. It is said that while boiling water under a tree, a few leaves accidentally fell into his cup. Curious, he tasted the infusion and immediately noticed its refreshing and stimulating effects. From that moment, tea began its journey as a healing infusion.

In its earliest use, green tea was valued for its detoxifying and energizing properties, helping the body stay alert, clear, and balanced. It was used by Taoist monks to support meditation, focus, and longevity, as it provided mental clarity without agitation - something still recognized today.

By the time of the Tang Dynasty (618–907), tea had become deeply integrated into Chinese culture. It was no longer only medicinal but also social and spiritual. The first book entirely dedicated to tea, The Classic of Tea (Cha Jing) by Lu Yu, described cultivation, preparation, and the philosophy behind tea drinking.

From China, tea spread to Japan in the 8th–9th centuries, carried by Buddhist monks. There, it became central to Zen practice and later evolved into the refined Japanese tea ceremony, where tea drinking was elevated to an art of presence, simplicity, and mindfulness.

Tea reached Europe much later, in the 16th–17th centuries, through Portuguese and Dutch traders. Initially rare and expensive, it was used as a medicinal tonic among the elite before becoming a widely consumed beverage. The British, in particular, played a major role in expanding tea cultivation beyond China, establishing plantations in India and Sri Lanka in the 19th century.

Despite these global adaptations, the essence of Camellia sinensis remains unchanged. Whether green, black, or white, all tea comes from the same plant - the difference lies in how the leaves are processed. Green tea, being unoxidized, remains closest to its original form and retains the highest concentration of its natural active compounds.

From ancient healing infusion to daily ritual, Camellia sinensis has always held the same role:
to stimulate gently, cleanse the body, and bring clarity to the mind.
