Organic Mugwort | A Traditional European Botanical

Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) is one of Europe's long-established traditional herbs, with a botanical history stretching back centuries.

Our Organic Mugwort capsules provide the plant in a simple whole-herb format, using 100% organic mugwort powder in vegetable capsules. With 500 mg per capsule and no unnecessary additives, they offer an easy way to incorporate this distinctive European botanical into a modern daily routine.

Mugwort has a particularly rich place in traditional European herbalism and has long been associated with women's botanical traditions, digestive preparations and the seasonal use of bitter and aromatic herbs.

For those interested in traditional European plants rather than complex multi-ingredient formulas, this is a straightforward way to explore one of herbalism's most historically significant Artemisia species.

A Distinctive European Herb

Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) is one of Europe's long-established aromatic herbs. Its naturally bitter character, distinctive scent and silvery-backed leaves make it an unmistakable member of the Artemisia family.

For centuries, mugwort has held a place in European herbal traditions, particularly in preparations associated with women, food and digestion, and seasonal herbal practices.

These capsules keep the formula deliberately simple: organic mugwort leaf powder in a vegetable capsule, offering the whole herb in an easy-to-use modern format.

More information

Mugwort | Artemisia vulgaris

Mugwort belongs to the Artemisia genus, a remarkable group of aromatic plants that has played an important role in European and Asian botanical traditions.

Artemisia vulgaris is a perennial herb recognised by its deeply divided leaves, which are dark green above and characteristically silvery-white underneath. When crushed, the plant releases the strong aromatic scent typical of many members of the Artemisia genus.

Historically, mugwort was valued as both a culinary and herbal plant. Its aromatic and naturally bitter character made it particularly interesting in traditional preparations connected with food, digestion and seasonal herbal routines. It also became closely associated with women's herbal traditions across Europe.

Unlike concentrated extracts, these capsules contain powdered mugwort itself. Each capsule provides 500 mg of organic Artemisia vulgaris, making the composition particularly simple and transparent.

A little history

Mugwort has followed European herbal tradition for centuries and was once such a familiar plant that it became woven into folklore, travel customs and everyday household life.

Its botanical name, Artemisia, has traditionally been linked with Artemis, the Greek goddess associated with women, childbirth and the wild. Another historical explanation connects the name with Artemisia II of Caria, an ancient queen remembered for her knowledge of plants.

During the Middle Ages, mugwort became one of Europe's well-known protective herbs. Travellers were said to carry it with them on long journeys, and the plant developed a particular association with roadsides, travellers and protection along the way.

Mugwort also formed part of seasonal European traditions. It was gathered and used around midsummer in several regions, where aromatic herbs were woven into customs involving fires, garlands and household protection.

Its long association with women is equally notable. Mugwort appears repeatedly in European herbal traditions connected with the female life cycle, which helps explain why the plant retained such an important place in traditional women's herbalism.

Today, Artemisia vulgaris remains an intriguing link between modern botanical practice and the much older European tradition of using locally growing aromatic herbs as part of everyday life.
