A little History

Originally from North America, Evening Primrose oil was used externally and in infusion for its many medicinal virtues. According to its Greek etymology oinos (wine) and thêr (wild animals), it was given the power to tame wild animals by soaking its root in wine. The flowers, currently present in most of the temperate regions, are part of the Onagraceae family and were brought back by European botanists in 1614.

They are in the form of yellow flowers at the end of a long stem of about one meter and open in just a few minutes at nightfall. When ripe, they contain several hundred black seeds (especially Oenothera biennis L and Oenothera erythrose pala Borb.) which are cold pressed and then filtered to extract the oil. These seeds alone contain about 25% oil.
