A little history

Katrafay (Cedrolopsis grevei) has a rich history rooted in the traditional practices of the indigenous people of Madagascar, where the tree is native. For centuries, Katrafay has been revered for its medicinal and therapeutic properties, playing an essential role in local healing traditions.

Traditional Uses:
Madagascan Folk Medicine: The bark of the Katrafay tree has long been used by the Malagasy people to treat a variety of ailments. It is traditionally prepared in decoctions or infusions to reduce fever, alleviate pain, and soothe inflammation. It was particularly valued for relieving joint and muscle pain, making it popular among those suffering from conditions like rheumatism and arthritis.

Skin Care:
Locals used Katrafay for its skin-soothing properties, applying it to calm irritated skin, reduce redness, and support the healing of cracked or damaged skin. Its ability to "cool the skin fire" made it a go-to remedy for sunburns and skin inflammations.
Outdoor Protection: The Madagascan people also appreciated its ability to protect the skin during outdoor activities, using it to ward off insects and alleviate itching caused by bites and stings.

Introduction to Aromatherapy:
As the world became more aware of the therapeutic benefits of essential oils, Katrafay was introduced to the global market. Its steam-distilled essential oil, extracted from the bark of the tree, quickly gained attention for its versatile properties, including its ability to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and calm irritated skin. It became an essential oil of choice for holistic practitioners and aromatherapists, particularly for those seeking a natural solution for skin issues, joint discomfort, and overall well-being.

Modern Uses:
Today, Katrafay essential oil is prized for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, tonic, and antirheumatic properties. It is used in modern aromatherapy for its ability to soothe both the body and mind, while its grounding, woody aroma lends itself well to calming and restorative blends.

Katrafay continues to be sustainably harvested and produced in Madagascar, bridging its ancient traditional uses with modern therapeutic applications.
