Four Traditional Evening Botanicals in One Formula

A thoughtfully composed organic blend of passionflower, linden, California poppy and lemon balm, created for people who want to make traditional herbalism part of their evening routine.

Each of these plants has its own long history in Western herbal practice, but what makes this formula especially interesting is the combination. Rather than relying on one botanical alone, it brings together four distinctive plants traditionally associated with quiet evening preparations, herbal infusions and winding-down rituals.

The capsule format makes it easy to use the blend consistently, without preparing several separate teas or extracts.

Why This Combination?

Passionflower brings one of the best-known traditional evening botanicals from the Americas.

Linden adds the gentle European tradition of fragrant blossom infusions, long associated with quiet evenings and comforting herbal rituals.

California poppy contributes another North American botanical with a well-established place in Western herbalism.

Lemon balm adds its fresh aromatic character and centuries-old European tradition in monastery gardens and herbal preparations.

Together, they form a more complete evening botanical blend than any one of the four plants used alone.

A Simple Evening Ritual

These capsules are particularly suited to customers who:

  • prefer botanical preparations as part of their evening routine
  • want several traditional evening herbs in one product
  • do not always want to prepare herbal tea
  • appreciate simple formulations without unnecessary additives

Take them as part of a regular evening ritual, alongside the other habits that help mark the transition from a busy day into a quieter part of the evening.

How This Plant Synergy Supports Restful Sleep

This organic formula brings together four well-known calming plants, each chosen for its gentle, supportive qualities. Their combined action helps ease the nervous system, promote inner balance, and prepare the body for deep, restorative sleep.

Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata)

Passionflower is traditionally used to soothe emotional tension and support natural relaxation. It helps calm mental chatter, making it easier to unwind at the end of the day. Often chosen for occasional stress, restlessness, and difficulty falling asleep.

Linden (Tilia cordata)

Linden blossoms offer soft, comforting support for both body and mind. They help release accumulated tension and irritability, creating a sense of gentle peace. Linden is frequently used to encourage relaxation before bedtime.

California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica)

California poppy is valued for its calming influence on the nervous system. It helps improve sleep continuity by reducing nighttime awakenings and supporting deeper, more restorative sleep phases. Suitable for adults and children.

Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis)

Lemon balm is widely known for its bright yet soothing nature. It helps balance mood, reduce nervous tension, and support digestive comfort - an important element when stress affects the gut. Its calming action contributes to a smoother transition into sleep.

The Synergistic Effect

Together, these four plants create a natural sense of tranquility. Their combined properties help relax the body, quiet the mind, and ease the emotional load of the day.

This synergy supports:
- A calmer evening routine
- Faster sleep onset
- Fewer nocturnal awakenings
- A more refreshed feeling upon waking

A little history

The four plants in this formula come from different herbal traditions, yet all have long been associated with evening calm and rest.

Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) is native to the Americas, where Indigenous peoples used the plant long before it became known in Europe. Spanish missionaries encountered the extraordinary flowers in the 16th century and associated their unusual structure with symbols of the Passion of Christ, giving rise to the name Passiflora. By the 19th century, passionflower had become established in Western herbal practice, particularly in preparations traditionally used during periods of nervousness and restlessness.

Linden (Tilia cordata) has an especially deep connection with European culture. Linden trees were traditionally planted in the centres of villages, beside churches and in gathering places, and some ancient specimens still stand today. The fragrant blossoms have also been prepared as herbal infusions for generations, particularly as part of comforting evening and bedtime traditions.

California poppy (Eschscholzia californica) comes from western North America and is instantly recognisable by its golden-orange flowers. Indigenous peoples traditionally used different parts of the plant, and it later entered Western herbal practice. The plant was named in the early 19th century after the naturalist Johann Friedrich von Eschscholtz and became the official state flower of California in 1903.

Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) has been valued around the Mediterranean and throughout Europe for more than two thousand years. Its botanical name Melissa comes from the Greek word for “honeybee”, reflecting the plant's strong attraction to bees. Ancient Greek and later European herbal traditions valued its fragrant leaves, and by the Middle Ages lemon balm was widely cultivated in monastery gardens and used in aromatic herbal preparations.

Together, these four plants bring several centuries of European and American herbal tradition into one formula, making the combination particularly fitting for a modern evening ritual centred around calm, rest and winding down.
