Blends well with

Inula essential oil has a strong, penetrating action on the respiratory system. When blended with complementary oils, its effects become more balanced, targeted, and easier to work with.

Ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora ct. cineole)

Ravintsara strengthens the antiviral and immune-supportive aspect of Inula.
While Inula clears mucus and opens the lungs, Ravintsara helps the body respond to infections and supports overall respiratory resilience.

👉 Ideal for: seasonal illness and weakened immunity

Eucalyptus radiata

Eucalyptus radiata enhances the decongestant and airway-opening effect of Inula, but in a gentler way than Eucalyptus globulus.
It helps improve breathing comfort while keeping the blend suitable for more sensitive individuals.

👉 Ideal for: blocked nose, sinus congestion, easier breathing

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

Lavender brings balance and calm to the intensity of Inula.
It reduces irritation, soothes inflamed tissues, and supports the nervous system—especially when breathing discomfort creates tension or anxiety.

👉 Ideal for: irritated airways + calming the breath

Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile)

Roman chamomile complements Inula by targeting the allergic and hypersensitive response.
While Inula works on mucus and congestion, chamomile helps calm the body's overreaction.

👉 Ideal for: seasonal allergies and reactive airways

Myrtle (Myrtus communis)

Myrtle adds a gentle regulatory effect on the respiratory system, especially for chronic conditions.
It supports both clearing mucus and toning the lungs without being too aggressive.

👉 Ideal for: long-term respiratory support and sensitive lungs

Pine (Pinus sylvestris)

Pine brings a fresh, energising and tonic effect to the lungs.
It supports oxygenation, stimulates the respiratory system, and complements Inula’s clearing action with a more invigorating quality.

👉 Ideal for: fatigue, weak lungs, sluggish breathing

Lemon (Citrus limon)

Lemon adds a light, cleansing and uplifting note.
It supports immune function, purifies the air, and helps “lift” the heavier aroma and action of Inula.

👉 Ideal for: diffusion, freshness, and immune support

Inula is the deep worker in a blend.

These oils either:
- Support (Ravintsara, Lemon)
- Open and enhance (Eucalyptus, Pine)
- Soothe and balance (Lavender, Roman chamomile, Myrtle)

👉 That’s why the combination works so well - it covers clearing, calming, and strengthening in one formula.

Precautions for use

Do not use on children under 7 years of age, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or people with epilepsy.
Do not swallow.
Do not expose yourself to the sun for 12 hours after application (risk of photosensitivity depending on the essential oils).
Discontinue use if a skin reaction occurs.

Packaging & storage

Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dark place.
Blue glass bottle with a dropper cap, 2 ml.

A little history

🌿Ancient Origins

The use of Inula dates back to ancient Greece and Rome, where it was highly valued as a medicinal plant. It was often associated with healing and protection, and in Greek tradition, it was linked to Heraclea, a figure connected to health and restoration.

The plant was believed to:
- Protect against illness
- Support the lungs and digestion
- Strengthen the body during weakness

It was commonly used in the form of herbal preparations, especially from the roots and flowering parts.

🌿Traditional Herbal Use

Across Europe and parts of Asia, Inula became known as a respiratory remedy.

Herbalists traditionally used it to:
- Clear mucus from the lungs
- Calm persistent coughs
- Support breathing during illness

It was particularly valued in rural medicine, where it grew easily in harsh, dry soils—a reflection of its strong, resilient nature.

🌿From Herb to Essential Oil

The essential oil of Inula is a more recent development, made possible through steam distillation of the flowering tops.

This process concentrates the plant’s active compounds - especially:
- Bornyl acetate
- Borneol

These compounds are responsible for its deep action on the respiratory system, which aligns closely with its traditional herbal uses.

🌿Modern Aromatherapy

Today, Inula essential oil is considered a specialist oil in aromatherapy.

It is not widely used like lavender or eucalyptus, but among practitioners, it is highly respected for:
- Respiratory congestion
- Bronchial irritation
- Seasonal breathing difficulties

Its reputation has evolved from a general medicinal herb to a targeted therapeutic oil for the lungs.

🌿A Plant of Strength and Resilience

Inula grows in poor, dry soils and harsh climates - yet produces powerful medicinal compounds.

This reflects its traditional symbolism:
A plant that brings strength, clears what is blocked, and restores flow - especially in the breath.
